Jonny Wilkinson signs extended contract to stay at Toulon

Wilkinson, who announced his retirement from international rugby on Monday, took up the option for an additional year on the deal he signed in 2009.

The club said in a statement: "After having taken the decision to stop his international career, Jonny Wilkinson has taken another important decision."

Wilkinson, has made a big impact following his move to the Stade Mayol, scoring 302 points in his first season while helping Philippe Saint-Andre's side reach the final of the European Challenge Cup, where they lost to Cardiff Blues in Marseille.

"For me now, I will continue to focus ever harder on my goal of being the very best I can be with Toulon, and continue to embrace and enjoy wherever that path takes me," he said when confirming his international retirement on Monday.

The 32-year-old fly-half, who won the World Cup with England in 2003, announced he was quitting the international scene after winning 91 caps for his country and six caps for the British and Irish Lions.

A statement on Toulon's official website read: "After having taken the decision to stop his international career with England, Jonny Wilkinson has taken another important decision. Wilkinson has officially extended his contract with Rugby Club Toulonnais for an extra season.

"Until now, Wilkinson had a contract until the end of this season, with an option to extend it by another season. This option has been exercised, which means 'Wilko' will be back in the Red and Black in 2013."
